Product Overview

Assorted elastomeric ligature ties on dispensing sticks

These orthodontic elastomeric ligature ties — also known as ligature o-rings, ortho o-ties, elastic donuts or simply braces rubber bands for brackets — are the everyday consumable that secures the archwire into the bracket slot throughout fixed appliance therapy. Each bag contains a generous 1,040-piece assorted color mix, supplied on ready-to-use dispensing sticks so the chairside team can load a Mathieu plier or ligature director in seconds and keep the appointment moving.

Every tie is molded from medical-grade, latex-free polyurethane and finished with Low Friction Technology, a smooth low-drag surface engineered to reduce the resistance generated at the bracket–wire–ligature interface.

The result is a ligature that holds the wire confidently while allowing the archwire to express its designed force more efficiently — a meaningful advantage during leveling, alignment and sliding mechanics. This assortment is sold and distributed by Orthodentalusa Corp, an orthodontic supply company based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, serving orthodontists, general dentists, dental laboratories, universities and dental distributors. Orders ship quickly from our Florida facility.

Key Features & Benefits

Low Friction Technology
A low-drag surface finish reduces resistance to sliding at the bracket slot, helping the archwire work as intended during leveling, alignment and space closure.
100% Latex-Free
Manufactured from medical-grade polyurethane with no natural rubber latex, making them appropriate for latex-sensitive patients and latex-free clinical protocols.
Superior Color Stability
Fade-resistant pigments hold their tone between adjustment visits, so colors still look fresh at recall instead of dulling within days.
High Elasticity & Rebound
Excellent recovery after stretching means the tie seats fully around all four bracket wings and maintains a secure, consistent grip on the archwire.
Stick (Donut) Format
Ties are presented on rigid dispensing sticks for fast, hygienic single-hand pickup with a Mathieu plier, ligature director or explorer — no fumbling in a loose bag.
Assorted Color Variety
A wide multi-color mix in one bag lets patients pick a new color each visit — a simple, proven way to boost engagement and compliance with younger patients.
Universal Compatibility
Designed for standard twin brackets in .018″ and .022″ slot systems — metal, ceramic and plastic — as well as molar tubes with tie wings and lingual buttons.
Practice-Friendly Value
At 1,040 ties per bag, this bulk assortment lowers your cost per ligation and keeps a full color wall stocked without repeat ordering.

Why Low Friction Technology Matters

In fixed appliance therapy, a portion of every force you apply is consumed before it ever reaches the tooth. Resistance to sliding develops where the ligature presses the archwire against the base of the bracket slot — classical friction, binding and notching all begin at that interface. The tighter and grabbier the ligature, the more of your intended force is spent overcoming it.

Low Friction Technology addresses the first of those components. The tie is formulated and finished so its contact surface glides rather than grips, easing the archwire movement through the slot while still seating securely over all four tie wings.

Assorted color elastomeric ligature ties

In practical terms, clinicians choose low-friction elastomerics when they want:

  • More efficient expression of light, continuous forces during initial leveling and alignment with NiTi archwires.
  • Freer sliding mechanics during space closure and retraction, where resistance to sliding is most costly.
  • A conventional-bracket alternative when a full self-ligating conversion is not practical or not indicated.
  • Reduced ligature-related drag without giving up the color choice and chairside speed that patients and staff expect.

Note: ligation friction is influenced by many variables — bracket design and slot size, archwire alloy and dimension, ligation tightness, saliva and elapsed time in the mouth. The above describes the design intent of the product and general orthodontic principles; it is not a claim of specific clinical outcomes.

Clinical Applications

✓ Routine archwire ligation. Standard O-ring ligation of round and rectangular archwires into twin brackets at bonding and at every adjustment appointment.

✓ Leveling and alignment. Holds superelastic NiTi wires passively enough to let light continuous forces work through crowding and rotations.

✓ Sliding mechanics. Supports space closure, canine retraction and en-masse retraction where minimizing resistance to sliding is a priority.

✓ Rotation control. Can be placed in a figure-eight configuration when a firmer, more positive seat on a rotated tooth is required.

✓ Auxiliary retention. Secures lace-backs, hooks, buttons and other auxiliaries, and helps retain wires in molar tubes with tie wings.

✓ Patient motivation. A color wall of assorted shades lets patients personalize each visit — a low-cost, high-impact compliance tool in pediatric and teen practices.

Directions for Use

1 Seat and confirm the archwire in the bracket slots before ligating.
2 Pick up a single tie from the stick with a Mathieu plier, ligature director or explorer tip.
3 Engage the two gingival tie wings first, then stretch the tie over the archwire and roll it down onto the two occlusal wings.
4 Verify the tie is fully seated around all four wings and that the wire is captured in the slot. Avoid excessive over-stretching during placement, which can permanently deform the elastomer.
5 For rotated teeth requiring a firmer seat, place the tie in a figure-eight pattern across the diagonal wings.
6 Remove and replace ties at each adjustment appointment — commonly every 4 to 6 weeks — to maintain grip and hygiene. Dispose of used ties; do not reuse.
7 Reinforce oral hygiene with patients: pigmented ties can pick up stain from curry, turmeric, tomato sauce, coffee, tea, red wine, colored sodas and tobacco.

Storage & handling: Keep the bag sealed and store at room temperature in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, UV sources and heat. Prolonged UV exposure and heat accelerate degradation of elastomeric products. Use within the stated shelf life printed on the package.
